A Physician Assistant (PA) is a health professional licensed to practice medicine as delegated by and with the supervision of a physician. PA’s provide a broad range of medical and surgical services that traditionally have been performed by physicians. As part of their responsibilities, PA’s perform physical exams and many procedures, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret lab tests, and prescribe medications. Physician Assistants are trained in intensive education programs accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Because of the close working relationship that PA’s have with physicians, PA’s are educated in the medical model designed to complement physician training. A PA-C is a “physician assistant-certified”. Brooke ‘Stein’ Moss, PA-C, holds this title by passing the certification exam developed jointly by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, as well as completing continuing medical education credits each year.
