Tune in tonight to ABC KSTP NIGHTLINE news, Thursday May 5, 2016, at 11:35pm to watch Dr. Tareen discuss the recent trend of celebrity skin lightening and dangers associated with doing so.
Hundreds of thousands of people each year, celebrity or not, seek to lighten their skin. This quest can be attributed to the desire to subconsciously change their perceived race. Musician Nicky Minaj recently posted on Instagram a photo revealing a significantly lighter complexion, Rapper Lil Kim has famously bleached her skin in recent weeks and pop mega-star Michael Jackson also received much fanfare for lightening his complexion.
What most people don’t know is that skin bleaching comes with many dangers. The agents that are used to lighten the skin can be toxic and may potentially lead to skin cancer and thinning of the skin and have even been associated with internal types of cancer.
On tonight’s episode of Nightline Dr. Tareen will be sharing her insight and expertise into this highly publicized and potentially dangerous trend.
And don’t forget!
