What is Latisse?

Latisse is the ONLY FDA approved topical product proven to darken, lengthen, and thicken the lashes. Latisse eyelashes are longer, fuller and darker in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks.   Latisse is only available with a prescription or at a physician’s office.  For your own Latisse eyelashes please come in for a consultation. Dr Tareen and her staff will discuss the proper way to use Latisse to get the maximum benefit with no adverse effects.

Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse, was originally used as a glaucoma medication. Glaucoma patients noted their eyelashes growing tremendously with use.  Allergan, the company that makes Latisse, went through extensive clinical trials in order to prove that Latisse was safe for cosmetic eyelash use.

Latisse Side Effects

If used properly, Latisse side effects are rare. Latisse should only be used on the upper eyelid margin, not to the lower eyelid. Please tell Dr. Tareen if you are using any other eye drops or have an eye condition. According to Allergan, the company that makes Latisse, the most common Latisse side effects are: an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. This was reported in approximately 4% of patients. Other, less common Latisse side effects include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.  Permanent iris discoloration is a possibility with Latisse- however, this has not been reported in the clinical trials with Latisse – only when patients were using the Bimatoprost glaucoma drops in the eye.

Latisse Reviews

As a personal user of Latisse, Dr. Tareen attests to its efficacy and safety. “I had dark, but thin and short eyelashes, Latisse has made them significantly longer and thicker!”  Shelly Blake, states “After age of 40 I started losing my eyelashes and I thought it was over. I started using Latisse at the recommendation of Dr. Tareen. I now have longer and thicker lashes than when I was 20, and I am 51!  My eyelashes touch my sunglasses.”  All of our patients have great Latisse reviews as well. No one is ever unhappy with thicker, longer, and darker eyelashes. As one of our patients states “I was so happy to buy Latisse at Tareen Dermatology, they went through all of my questions, explained Latisse side effects, and taught me how to use it properly.”

Latisse Off-Label Uses

There has been considerable interest in the use of Latisse for eyebrows and scalp hair re-growth. Latisse is not FDA approved for these areas but there are several studies showing great hair re-growth. Dr. Tareen’s husband has been using Latisse for his scalp with excellent re-growth thus far!
