Tareen family donation creates Department of Dermatology at UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences
The University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine & Health Sciences will receive a $5 million gift from the Tareen family. The donation will help start the Department of Dermatology and create the Tareen Family Chair of Dermatology. It will support faculty recruitment, developing clinical programs, and training future dermatologists. The donation will also help expand specialty care for rural and underserved communities in North Dakota and the Upper Midwest.
The Tareen family’s strong connection to UND and North Dakota inspired this gift, which honors a multigenerational legacy of service to the region. Dr. Basir Tareen’s father, Dr. Jamil Tareen, served as a rural surgeon in Cavalier for more than 35 years and helped train UND medical students. This donation continues the family’s tradition of giving back and investing in local healthcare and education.
