Over time, after the body metabolizes the Kybella®, the submental fat cells begin to break down, and your double chin might seem to melt away.

A Kybella® treatment typically takes less than 30 to 45 minutes and involves a few simple injections into the targeted area. While individual results may vary, most patients require two or three treatments spaced approximately two months apart to achieve the best results. However, for some patients to achieve their desired results, we might recommend six treatments.

Kybella® is safe to use with other cosmetic injectable treatments. However, we rarely perform simultaneous treatments with Kybella® because we prefer our clients to have the time and space to recover first.

Kybella® does not offer an instantaneous solution, as it takes the immune system time to break down the fat and move it out of the body through urination. You might start noticing changes in the first two weeks, with optimal results occurring six to eight weeks after the last series of injections.

Kybella® is a quick and easy noninvasive treatment, but patients often experience significant swelling around their face as a side effect of treatment. Most patients can resume regular daily activities immediately following the injections but should schedule their treatment accordingly if they have any upcoming events or work.

Kybella® is specifically formulated to reduce the appearance of a double chin caused by submental fat. The substance has Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, with the only “on-label” use designated for diminishing submental fat that collects around the jawline. It is currently not approved for any other part of the body.

Kybella® is a non-invasive treatment that does not require general anesthesia, making it a safe option for most. Since the substance is chemically identical to the deoxycholic acid in the body, the chance of experiencing an allergic reaction is minimal.

The most common side effects of Kybella® injections are temporary and include slight bruising, numbness, pain, swelling, and redness around the injection sites. These side effects diminish in most patients within a few days.

If you are experiencing moderate discomfort after treatment, use an ice compress or over-the-counter pain reliever. Those concerned with redness can use a concealer around the treatment area.
